- THE IMPERATIVE OF HUMANITY
The world is witnessing an unprecedented displacement crisis. The number of people forced to flee conflict, violence, human rights abuses and persecution has surpassed the 100 million mark for the first time. The 100 million figure represents more than 1%* of the world’s population and includes refugees and asylum seekers, as well as internally displaced persons (IDPs), driven by new waves of violence or protracted conflicts in countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Yemen and Syria. Forced displacement requires not only a humanitarian response, but also a sustainable and inclusive response. The SHE Institute reinforces fundamental human rights in dignity. It upholds justice and respect for obligations under international law, the promotionof social progress, access to justice and social and economic inclusion.
- APPROACH TO THE SDGs
Effective
implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is inconceivable
without access to justice. To fulfill the commitment to leave “no one behind”,
justice services must reach the excluded. When women’s rights are protected by
effective justice systems, pathways to inclusion, poverty reduction and
sustainable peace are created.
