Who We Are

The SHE Institute – Sustainable Humanitarian Empowerment is a think and do tank dedicated to research, advocacy and public policy formulation for sustainable and inclusive humanitarian action, promoting access to justice, well-being and corporate responsibility, and encouraging private social investment.

The aim of these activities is to contribute to the development of effective solutions to social, economic and political challenges, particularly in relation to issues of migration, refuge, gender, participation and inclusion.

Originally conceived as a comprehensive response to the reception in Brazil of seven Afghan women judges and their families, as part of the “Nós por Elas” campaign promoted by the Brazilian Magistrates’ Association (AMB), the SHE Institute was created to lay the necessary foundations for the development of sustainable projects and lasting solutions, with the aim of improving academic and professional training of refugees.

Conceived and supported since its inception by the law firm MJ Alves Burle e Viana, the SHE Institute has later developed to a non-profit civil organization to serve as a basis for the development of a global model for sustainable humanitarian empowerment, refugee law and international humanitarian law, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
